About the Event

Dear potential participant,

Thank you for your interest in signing up to the Shiatsu on a table workshop happening this saturday and Welcome to the first workshop being held at Melbourne Shiatsu.

My name is Dan and I am your workshop host. This is my first workshop and I am very excited to be stepping into this space. Here is a little about me so you know who I am.

I first studied Zen Shiatsu in 2004 at the Australian Shiatsu college when it was in Collingwood.  I didn’t continue to practice at that point but pursued other things until 2008 when I rediscovered receiving bodywork and knew it was what I wanted to do.  I then enrolled in full time at the Australian Shiatsu College, now in East Brunswick, and completed the Shiatsu and Oriental therapies diploma full time over 2 years.  After this I quit my job in age and disability personal care and just focussed on my practice.  Thirsty for more knowledge I went on to study Dr Manaka’s acupuncture protocols post graduate certificate in 2011.  SInce then I have started a health science degree in TCM but not completed it, learned Hawaiian Lomilomi with the Blisstitute of living Aloha in 2019.  Between 2011 and now I have done at least 20 hours of professional development each year in many different techniques, practices and theoretical education.

This workshop will be a foundation workshop.  A base treatment that can be done by most people that covers the most common areas of tension I see in clinic but also is just a delight to receive.  I will incorporate stretches, positioning of the practitioners body as well as the receivers body.  I want you to take home something you can use as your baseline and then add the extras based on what each individual may need.  The positions used will give access to the body in such a way that you should be able to adapt it to address a multitude of symptoms or treatment requirements.

By participating you understand that you are taking responsibility for yourself as well as the person you pair up with for treatment practice.  You are expected to be mindful to check in with the person you work on so they are safe and to speak up if you do not feel like you are being cared for.  Please speak to me directly if you have any injuries, concerns, needs.  I am open to communication leading up to and during this session as well as a check in post session if need be as well.  PLease make sure to be mindful of peoples boundaries, identities and individual circumstances.  Melbourne Shiatsu is a safe and welcome space for all.

Parking:

This may prove challenging on a saturday but the workshop is running at 1:30 so the car park across the road, which is paid parking, may not yet have finished running it’s market but there may be some parking available in their upstairs section or in the car park behind the building as well as parking on Fitzroy street for 2 hours for free from 7-7 then unlimited..  There is also parking across the road from the Fitzroy pool for 4 hours.  There is also a the tram on Brunswick street and Nicholson street that are on opposite ends of Rose street and make it very easy to gt here by PT from most inner melbourne areas. WE may need to take breaks for people to move their cars if parking proves difficult.

On the day:

Please wear loose comfortable clothing that you can move around in as well as feel comfortable receiving in.  The space will be well heated but blankets are available. PLease bring a note book and pen/pencil if you are someone that enjoys taking notes.

The training space is up 2 flights of stairs so unfortunately not accessible to everyone but if you need support getting up the stairs please do let me know and I would be more than happy to be of assistance if possible.  There is a unisex bathroom on the second floor of the building.

Tea will be provided but please make sure you have eaten something earlier in the day for both energy and blood sugar levels.  Snacks are welcome if you feel you need them and there will be breaks as we go.

A rough guide of the day will be:

1:30 arrive and get familiar with the space.

2:00 ( hopefully all have arrived by this point), acknowledgement of country, formal introductions, a little bit about each other, any boundaries needing to be discussed, etc..

2:30 Dan will demo a 1 hour treatment

3:30 break

3:45 participants pair off and one gives while the other receives what has been observed and Dan will be available to help and answer questions or demo if needed.
