ROMANA LESNJAKOVIC she/her

I trained as a nurse in Croatia and after graduation worked in The Hospital for Infectious Disease in the capital, Zagreb. I have also worked as a nurse in England and Spain in a riding rehabilitation program where we would take patients with various mental and physical disabilities on horse rides. I moved to Australia in 2005 and worked in nursing homes throughout Australia, including Moree (NSW), Darby (WA) and Cairns (QLD) for over 7yrs.I have been working as a massage therapist since arriving to Melbourne in 2015, starting in day spas and eventually moving into clinical practice after graduating from Holmsglen with a Diploma of Remedial Massage. I am a high energy massage therapist with knowledge of a wide range of massage methods and techniques, including hot stone, cupping and reflexology. My speciality is deep tissue massage and work on the inner layers of muscle and connective tissue. Deep tissue massage offers both physical and psychological benefits. Unlike other massage techniques that focus on relaxation, deep tissue massage helps to treat muscle pain and improve stiffness and reduces tension in muscle. Deep tissue can also help to unwind mentally, as research has shown endorphins are released into bloodstream with this technique. Over the years of practice I have developed effective methods of relieving tension headaches, neck, shoulder and lower back pain which can result from stress, working at the desk, prolonged sitting and other activities of everyday living. When assessing clients I consider al lpossible physical, mental and emotional stressors that can cause muscular tension, discomfort and/or pain. My nursing background helps me greatly in this process. Currently I’m studying Myotherapy, to learn dry needling and further expand my knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and different techniques for relieving pain, tension and discomfort in future I’m planning to undertake a Personal Trainer Certificate, to further my knowledge of corrective and strengthening exercises that help optimal function of muscles and joints. Corrective exercise in combination with massage therapy is one of the best ways to improve posture, recover, prevent injury and just feel better.
